President Museveni has promised to drop forgery charges against the Ruhinda North MP, Capt. Donozio Kahonda, who ousted Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire in the recent general elections.

Capt. Kahonda defeated Maj Gen Kahinda twice, in NRM primaries and the February 18 general elections.

In the fight, Kahonda was accused of forging academic papers, which he says it was a planned move by Kahinda to fail him in the election.

Museveni while speaking to residents of Mitooma District at Bubangizi SS on Sunday, said he will ask the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to drop the charges against the legislator.

“We have forgiven him. I will tell the DPP to drop the charges. We have forgiven killers like Joseph Kony, we can’t fail to forgive Kahonda who is accused of using fake academic papers,” Museveni said during a function to celebrate Gen Otafiire’s re-appointment as Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister.

It is not yet clear why the president has decided to pardon Capt. Kahonda yet a number of NRM MPs have been thrown out of parliament over the same issue.

NRM has lost over 20 parliamentary seats in Election petitions since February 18, and many are victims of fake academic papers.
