The Uganda Cranes coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic on Tuesday received a token of appreciation totaling worth shs50m from the Ministry of Education and sports despite pending salary arrears.
The commissioner for sports in the ministry, Omara Apita said the ministry intended to thank Micho for guiding the national team to Africa Cup of Nation competitions where they last appeared 38 years back.
“This is to appreciate coach Micho for technically guiding us to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) for the first time in 38 years,” Omara said. Janet Museveni, the First Lady is the Minister of Education and Sports.
Micho picked his reward from the Ministry’s accounts office at around 11am, and promised to share the reward with his technical staff.
“All that I have received will be shared with my coaching, medical, transport, equipment, logistics and support teams that have contributed to Uganda’s qualifying,” Micho said on receiving the prize.
This comes after the coach had complained of not being paid his salary for over five months despite the good work he does for the national team.
However, it should be noted that this reward is not in relation with his unpaid salary.
