Janet M7: Cranes Win An Answer From God
By Alex Masereka
Uganda’s Education and Sports Minister, Janet Museveni has revealed that the Uganda Cranes historic win on Sunday is an answer from the most high.
Janet who also doubles as First Lady made this proclamation moments after the country’s football team had defeated to Comoros to secure a place in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon.
@UgandaCranes This win is an answer from God to a National prayer,” she tweeted moments after the historic win.
Uganda finally booked a historic place at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon next January after seeing off a stubborn Comoros side 1-0 at a fully packed Namboole Stadium in Kampala.
The First Lady who was at Namboole Stadium to witness the occasion added, “Today along with hundreds of thousands of Ugandans, I watched you qualify for AFCON. This is after your hard work and dedication. I thank God for this victory and I salute the Uganda Cranes.”
Uganda also earned 13 points, thanks to a 35th-minute winner by Farouk Miya, but they finished in second place because of a inferior head-to-head record against Burkina Faso.
However, it was enough to send the Cranes to the finals for the first time for 38 years. Their last appearance ended in a runners-up spot when they lost to Ghana in the final.
