Education Minister, Non-teaching staff meet over salary enhancement
The minister of education also the first lady, Janet Kataha Museveni has today morning met all the non-teaching staff from all public Universities to discuss matters concerning their salaries.
Non-teaching staff have been on sit down strike since last week claiming for salary enhancements and their arrears paid as soon as possible.
According to the association’s Secretary Mr. Vicent Abigaba, they are determined not to return to work if their cry is not heard and answered.
He says the government promised to enhance their salaries this financial year, a promise that was never fulfilled.
The government’s promise came through the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda in May when they were striking over the same issue.
Their sit down strike has interfered the reporting dates of fresh students since the academic staff cannot work without the non-teaching staff, and therefore the reporting dates were pushed further.
