Umeme Breaks Silence on last night’s power Outage
Uganda’s major Electricity distributor Umeme has explained the power blackout last evening.
According to a statement released by Mr. Stephen Ilungole Umeme’s media relations manager, on July 27th 2016 at 19:37 hours, there was a total blackout, affecting electricity supply to the entire country following a technical failure at the Kiira, Nalubale and Bujagali hydropower dams.
Restoration of electricity supply commenced at 20:09 hours with Bujagali hydro power dam and a full restoration was effected by 22:02 hours.
A full report is to be issued by the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) according to his statement.
The blackout caused huge social media out bursts as most parts of the city and countryside were in total darkness causing heavy losses and halts in businesses
