Ethiopia Jews ‘disappointed’ with Netanyahu

An Ethiopian-born Israeli MP says thousands of Ethiopian Jews are disappointed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to outline a clear timetable for when they will immigrate to Israel.

Avraham Neguise’s comments come a day after the prime minister’s visit to Ethiopia.

Mr Neguise, an Ethiopian Jew who moved to Israel 30 years ago, says he will continue pushing the government to fully resettle 9,000 people who are still in Ethiopia waiting to be reunited with their loved ones.

Israel has said the 9,000 can emigrate but it’s not clear when that will happen.

At least 130,000 Ethiopian Jews are now living in Israel, many of whom made the move during the 1980s and 1990s.

On Thursday, Mr Netanyahu said his government was still committed to resettling the remaining Ethiopian Jews.

Mr Netanyahu has also been criticised for failing to meet any representatives of the Ethiopian Jews during his trip.
