President Museveni will be in parliament today as the house votes for speaker and deputy speaker.
National Resistance Movement (NRM) has fronted Hon. Rebecca Kadaga for speaker and Jacob Oulanyah for deputy speaker.
Whereas Kadaga is set to sail through easily, Oulanyah faces competition from Kampala central MP Muhammad Nsereko.
Nsereko told a local TV on Thursday morning that he will not be fazed by the president during the elections.
“I am not worried at all given that Mr Museveni is coming for this session,” he noted.
Adding; “This election is testing the independence of Parliament. Those that want to follow me, the door is open.”
President Museveni on Sunday kicked Nsereko out of a meeting of NRM Parliamentary Caucus after he rejected demands to drop his bid challenging incumbent Oulanyah.
Nsereko is among legislators dubbed “NRM rebel MPs” who were kicked out of NRM after failure to follow party lines in 2013.
In 2011, he won Kampala Central parliamentary race on the NRM ticket but contested as independent candidate in the recent elections.
