Omoro county Member of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has retained his deputy speaker position after grounding Kampala Central Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko.
Oulanyah who was fronted by the ruling party, National Resistance Movement polled 300 votes while Hon. Nsereko scored 115 votes.
The session attracted the presence of president Museveni. However, he was forced to move out when voting started.
Museveni took time to convince Nsereko to step down in favour of Oulanyah but he remained defiant.
Hon. Nsereko evoked the wrath of President Museveni on Sunday when he was kicked out of an NRM Parliamentary Caucus meeting after he rejected demands to drop his bid to challenge incumbent Oulanyah.
Nsereko is among legislators dubbed “NRM rebel MPs” who were kicked out of NRM after failure to follow party lines in 2013.
In 2011, he won Kampala Central parliamentary race on the NRM ticket but contested as independent candidate in the recent elections.
