Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda has questioned Tumukunde’s presence at youth elections at night on Monday
“In all fairness and with due respect, what would a general, worth his salt be doing at youth election at 2am?,” Ankunda asked in a tweet yesterday.
Paddy Ankunda said that Tumukunde was “hit by a teargas canister as police attempted to respond to a riotous situation,” a claim that the latter refuted
However, Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde yesterday while addressing press conference said he was shot in the legs during a fight in Fort Portal where Western Youth MP Elections were taking place.
“Do you think as a General I don’t know the difference between a tear gas canister and a bullet?” Tumukunde asked while addressing media.
His son Amanya Tumukunde was running against Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama, son to State Minister for agriculture Lt Col Bright Rwamirama.
Mpaka won the race with 660 votes while Amanya garnered 463 votes.
Ankunda also said Military police did not beat anyone during the scuffle however it arrested supporters of Amanya Tumukunde.
“Stop the lies Military police never beat anyone in Fort portal at the western youth MP elections they actually rescued the situation,” he asserted.
