Police has arrested Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Kiiza Besigye from the party headquarters offices in Najjanankumbi.
Among other people arrested are Gen Mugisha Muntu, Ingrid Turinwa and Ambassador Biriggwa, the party National Chairman.
The arrest cams as senior party officials prepared for a meeting to discuss the previous day’s general election.
Initial reports indicate that FDC was planning to announce results from its own tally that had been set up at the party headquarters.
Teargas and gunfire erupted in the area earlier today as police tried to disperse supporters who were swarming Forum for Democratic Change offices.
Assistant Ispector General of Police Felix Kaweesi who commanded the raid said police “cannot take any chances as far as FDC is concerned.”
“We are not stopping FDC from tallying their votes but they shouldn’t announce anything, it is only EC to do so,” he added.
