Government yet to clear Shs10billion Namugongo Martyrs Shrine Pledge

Government is yet to clear 10billion that it pledged towards the construction of the Martyrs’ Shrines at Namugongo in Wakiso district and at Munyonyo in Kampala district.

However, President Yoweri Museveni has assured the Catholic Church that the Government will release the money.

The President was speaking at Thanksgiving prayers yesterday that were organised by the Catholic Church at Munyonyo Catholic Martyrs’ Shrine to thank God for the successful visit of Pope Francis to Uganda from 27th to 29th November last year.

The President used the occasion and called upon Ugandans to work towards fully embracing the Operation Wealth Creation projects in order to transform their livelihood.

He noted that life is difficult for the people because they do not have money to undertake the production projects that they want to do.

Museveni urged Ugandans to fear God saying that everything is possible for whoever has fear of God.

He called on the youth to avoid being infected by HIV/AIDS.

“Our children who are 50years and below are my children or grandchildren and great grandchildren. I don’t want to see your potentials undermined by this unnecessary problem of HIV/AIDS,” he said.

The President thanked all the churches in general and the Catholic Church in particular for praying for our country Uganda and for inviting him as President to be part of the thanksgiving.

He said he was going to report to the government that the people have appreciated his contributions that he made towards the construction of the Martyrs’ shrines.

Be peaceful During General Elections

The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, the Most Rev. Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga urged Ugandans to be peaceful during the 2016 general elections.

He emphasized that everyone should desist from non-peaceful acts.

He also reminded the people of Uganda to keep in mind the national motto ‘For God and My Country’ adding that peace should be promoted in families, with neighbours and in the country.

Archbishop Kizito Lwanga commended President Museveni and the Government of Uganda for making the visit of Pope Francis a success.

He also highly commended the President for contributing generously during the last two fund-raisings that were organised by the Catholic Church towards the construction of the Martyrs’ shrines.
