Citizens Election Observers Network- Uganda coordinator Dr. Martin Mwondha has tasked government to explain the whereabouts of missing Mbabazi’s head of security Christopher Aine.
He said that Aine’s disappearance might instill fear and terror in supporters of other candidate in the presidential race.
“The Citizens Election Observers Network has noted with concern the disappearance of Christopher Aine, an aide to independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi…Aine’s disappearance raises many question for which it is the duty of government to investigate find answer and account for his whereabouts,” Mwondha argued in a press statement on Friday.
The statement added; “police action against suspects in electoral violence must follow the rule of law and principle of natural justice.”
Aine’s whereabouts continue to dominate political discussion. Police has on many occasions denied being behind Aine’s disappearance.
On Thursday evening, police questioned and detained The Red Pepper Chief editor Ben Byarabaha and Dickson Mubiru, Kamunye managing editor over the photo published in the two publications purported to be Aine’s dead body.
Controversial former Political Intelligence Unit boss Charles Rwomushana has also been detained over the same issue.
Though police confirmed that Rwomushana was detained, his friends, relatives and lawyers are yet to be given a chance to talk to him.
