National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi has warned president Museveni on going around drumming support for independent candidates who lost in the party primaries.
Appearing on NBS TV today morning Tanga Odoi with Justice and constitutional affairs Minister Gen. Kahinda Otafiire who is among those contesting as independents, Odoi said Museveni should stop moving around supporting independents.
“It shall be over his (Museveni) dead body that as chair, he moves around and supports independents. ‘That would be stabbing myself’…” he said.
Media recently reported that President Yoweri Museveni told MPs from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) who lost in the party primaries to stand as independents.
Museveni while meeting the losers argued that if they feel they have the support of the voters to win in the 2016 elections, they are free to be nominated and stand in the 2016 general elections.
However, the party secretariat is taking a divergent stand.
NRM General Secretary Kasule Lumumba has more than once argued ministers and other candidates who lost during the NRM primaries and are contesting as independents “will” dismissed from the NRM party.
