The vastly talented artist line up scheduled to perform at the Blankets and Wine December fete is rather impressive; with a perfect blend of fresh afro-fusion and familiar dance hall music.

Channel O nominated Swahili Nation, dancehall kings The Kansoul (Madtraxx) from Kenya and our very own highly acclaimed guitarist Myko Ouma are set to rock at the 11th edition of the event.

Dorothy Muttu, the UBL Marketing Manager for Premium Beer says, “This edition is about offering our consumers a refreshing, fun-filled end year experience. Consumers have the opportunity to choose the opening act before Swahilli Nation, Kansoul (Madtraxxx) and Myko Ouma take to the stage. This will by far be one of our biggest events– brilliant stage, amazing sound and lights, great performances”

Swahili Nation is not exactly a new group on the music scene.

The Swahili Nation concept was formed under the banner of their East African heritage.

Known for their exceptional vocals, Swahili Nation back in the day came in second during the world rap telephone competition in Stockholm and won a deal with an Independent label called GSF Records.

Under that label, they released their first hit single “Nasty Booty Bacs”.

After a couple of deals they got signed to their first major deal in 1995 to a Universal affiliated sub label called (Sonet) which was under the Universal family and a publishing deal with BMG.

It was not until they signed with Dr. Alban and singer Wayne “Tatz” Beckford in 1996 that they really made a significant contribution to African music.

Together, they produced the singles “Malaika”, “Nyama”, and “Hakuna Matata”, for which they received a nomination to Channel O Music Awards in South Africa.

Ken Daniels Kayongo, one of the group’s members says, ‘Obviously this is going to be the first time we make an appearance at Blankets and Wine. We are calling our performance ‘The Journey.’

Expect a musical journey through the old and new. Our audience should brace themselves for an epic performance” he said.
