President Museveni has said that African leaders should defend the continent from western hegemonies and dominance.
Addressing Military Academy Command of Algeria yesterday, Museveni said that if dominance was good, the continent would be the wealthiest region in the world since it had slave trade and colonialism.
“We, the African leaders need to answer the question of how to defend Africa in modern times,” Museveni said.
He added; “We can’t accept colonialism of hegemony, it is proof that domination is not good. If it was good, Africa would be the most prosperous continent because it had slave trade, colonialism, etc. I salute the Algerian People’s struggle against colonialism and the officers and soldiers for their contribution to African peace.”
Citing the Libya example he asked; “How will the present generation defend the sovereignty of Africa? How are we going to defend Africa? You saw the mistakes in Libya.”
He said that on some issues, leaders don’t consult others and or they go against fellow leaders’ stand like was the case for Libya.
“We, the African leaders need to answer the question of how to defend Africa in modern times,” he said.
The president who is on a four state visit in Algeria has also discussed bilateral ties with the host Abdelaziz Bouteflika, president of Algeria and agreed on new cooperative opportunities in areas such as education, vocational training, defence and security and in the oil and gas sector.
