TDA to Announce Candidate

The Democratic Alliance (TDA) will today announce its presidential candidate for the 2016 general elections, a day after one of the favourite candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye, FDC flag bearer was forced out of the alliance summit yesterday by his supporters.

The supporters accused the summit of favouring former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.

Press reports in the last two days indicate that the Alliance had pointed at former prime minister as the most favourable joint presidential candidate, a move that angered Besigye sympathisers led by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) youth radicals.

The youth had earlier petitioned their leaders to quit The Democratic Alliance, that the admission of former prime minister late at night on Sept. 11th was unfair and had brought confusion in the political grouping. The party leaders rejected the plea.

“We have successfully and forcefully got our candidate KB from Royal suites where the TDA summit is sitting. We have had enough of the TDA comedy; TDA has completely turned a deaf ear to media reports that continue announcing Mbabazi as flag bearer even before the selection exercise,” Doreen Nyanjura, one of Besigye supporters said yesterday.

According to the Alliance protocol, the Presidential Candidate of the Alliance is agreed to by the Summit by consensus. The candidate is chosen by the National Candidate’s Committee.
