The funds were donated through Rotary, which led the drive with the Rotary Cancer Run (Marathon), started at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015.

The Clerk to Parliament, Mrs. Jane Lubowa Kibirige led a team of over fifty staff in the Parliamentary Service to participate in the Rotary Cancer Run.

The money contributed this year was a follow up on another UShs 5m donated last year towards the construction of the Rotary Cancer Run which was constructed at Nsambya Hospital and handed over to the hospital management in July this year.

Parliament Ag. Director, Communication and Public Affairs, Ms Helen Kawesa said Parliament empathized with cancer patients as evidenced with debates on the issue as well as of blood scarcity in hospitals.

“As Parliament, we know there is scarcity of blood in the country; we therefore needed to identify with cancer victims and therefore the need for provision of blood to them and any other patients who would need it,” said Ms. Kawesa. “That is the background of this contribution. We are happy to associate with the Rotary organization in Uganda.

The Vice President, H.E Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi was the guest of honor at the Run, while Central Bank Deputy Governor Dr. Louis Kasekende was the Chief Runner.
