Mbale: Mbabazi supporters Dispersed

Police has dispersed a number of Mbabazi supporters who were trying to converge in a number of locations waiting for consultative meetings of former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.

Red Pepper has learnt that supporters of Mbabazi who had converged at Mbale Resort Hotel were forced to leave by police.

They were informed that Mbabazi would not make it to Mbale.

The ex-prime minister had booked Mbale Resort Hotel for his consultative meeting but his reservation was cancelled by management for reasons which are not yet clear.

Another group which was converging to meet at home of Nandala Mafabi, the Budadiri West Member of parliament in senior quarters in Wanale Division.

Heavily armed police backed with a teargas truck stormed the home at around 12pm on a tip off and dispersed the gathering.

Mbabazi was arrested this morning with his daughter Rachel Mbabazi on their way to commence the meetings in Mbale town.

The two are still detained at Kiira and Lugazi police stations respectively and police is yet to produce any charge sheet.

Amama supporters

Police still heavily deployed in Mbale to curb any group that could attempt to converge in a move to meet in the name of Amama Mbabazi.

Yesterday, supporters of incumbent president stormed Mbale town to show their allegiance to president Museveni and publicly denounced Mbabazi’s planned visit.
