Electoral commission (EC) is set to kick off voters’ register display in preparation for the 2016 elections, Eng. Dr. Badru M. Kiggundu Electoral Commission Chairperson revealed today morning in a press statement.
The display of the register will start on 22nd July and end on 11th August 2015.
“The display of the Voters’ Register shall begin at 8:00 am and end at 6:00 pm on each of the appointed dates, including weekends, at all polling stations throughout Uganda,” the statement reads.
According to Kiggundu, the purpose of the display is to enable voters to check for the correctness of their particulars on the Voters’ Register; confirm that their photographs appear against correct particulars on the Voters’ Register and Report to the Display Officers anomalies in the register.
The display period will also be used by eligible voters who applied for registration but whose particulars are missing on the Voters’ Register to be added in.
The display exercise will be followed by another period of eleven (11) days, from 14th to 24th August 2015 in which the lists of all persons recommended for deletion from the National Voters’ Register is going to be displayed for a period.
“The purpose of this supplementary display exercise is to enable any person who may have been wrongly recommended for deletion to raise an objection to the Parish/Ward Tribunal.”
However during this exercise, fresh application for registration as a voter or application for transfer to another voting location shall not be accepted during this Display exercise.
Electoral Commission will dispatch Display officers who will be physically stationed at each respective polling station, throughout the entire display period.
“This is to enable voters conveniently locate their polling station, especially those which might have been affected by the re-organisation of polling stations.”
