With either side struggling to get back to their winning ways, URA has hit another nail in SC Villa’s hopes of winning their first League title since 2004 following a 1-1 draw at Mehta stadium in Lugazi on Friday.
With KCCA in the 3rd position and a difference of 2 points between the second, it was a do or die opportunity for the Jogoos to increase pressure on the Uganda Premier League pace-setters Vipers who managed to beat bottom placed Entebbe FC 2-0 early this week.
With the first half ending goalless, URA took the lead with a 62nd minute goal from Frank Kalanda “Machete”.
SC Villa equalized through Dennis Kamanzi who in the 79th minute.
He fired in to level the game after the tax collector’s backline of Munaaba Allan, Mugabi Jonathan and the rest had failed to clear the ball from the box.
The Jogoos had a golden opportunity to move away with the 3 points though it went begging after the day’s referee Jingo Frank disallowed the goal.
A draw at Lugazi means that the interim Villa Boss Ibrahim Kirya has failed to register his first win ever since he followed the footsteps of former manager Sam Ssimbwa.
The result again puts table leaders SC Vipers on top of the log with a six point gap ahead of second placed Villa.
