The Parliamentary Appointments Committee is scheduled to sit on Wednesday, 18th March 2015 to consider the Presidential appointments of the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and cabinet Ministers.
In his communication to the House today, early this week, the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah said that all members of the committee should convene on the said date to consider the nominations made by the President.
“I am putting all Members of the Appointments Committee on notice. The committee will meet to consider the presidential appointments on 18th March 2015 at 10.00am”, Hon. Oulanyah said.
President Museveni recently, appointed Justices Bart Katureebe and Steven Kavuma as Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice respectively.
Towards the end of last month, the President also reshuffled Cabinet. This saw the appointment of new ministers and the change of designation of others.
Articles 113 and 142 of the Constitution state that Cabinet Ministers, the Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice shall be appointed by the President with the approval of Parliament.
