The deceased has been identified as Paul Mutafumba.

The incident occurred while he was resting under a tree in his parents’ compound in Nswanta village in Katikamu sub county.

Samuel Serunjoji, the Katikamu sub county LC III chairman, said that the victim’s brother and other neighbourhood children witnessed the incident. They were playing in the compound at the time.

A strong wind is believed to have dislodged the Jackfruit from its branch in the tree. The fully-grown jackfruit is thought to have weighed more than 10 kilograms.

Serunjoji says the jackfruit hit Mutafumba’s head hard prompting the other children to raise an alarm. The jackfruit, which was partly rotting, then split open.

The child was rushed to clinic at Luwuube, the nearest trading center, but was pronounced dead several minutes after arrival.

Luweero District Police Commander (DPC) Justus Asiimwe says the body was transferred to Kasana Health Centre for an autopsy.

In June 2014, a woman was killed and her son hospitalized at Kasana Health Center IV in critical condition, after they were hit by a falling tree as they were moving on a motorcycle in Luweero.

Sarah Nanfuka (48) a resident at Wakinoni met her demise as she was being ferried on a motorcycle by her unidentified son at Kyepukulu village in Kikyusa Sub County.
