Cop Murdered, Assailants Seize Firearm

Unknown assailants yesterday attacked and killed a police officer as he retired to his outpost in Kotido district. The deceased is identified as Corporal Siraje Mulabanaku who was attached to Nakapelimoru police post. 

The gruesome incident happened at 2.30am near Napei Primary school, Nakapelimoru Sub County, 124 kilometers North West of Moroto town.

Anatoli Katungwensi, the Kotido District Police Commander confirms the incident describing it as a terrible tragedy. He explains that due to a reported theft of solar panels at Napei Primary school, the police had sought to deploy to guard the gadgets.

He however adds that on the fateful day, Mulabanaku decided to leave the duty station before day break giving chance the assailants to waylay him.

Irene Aceng, the Karamoja police spokesperson says the attackers also disappeared with the deceased’s gun number UG. Police-563688545 loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition. The search for the killers is ongoing.

Siraje believed to be in the early 40’s, had served the police for 17 years when he met his death on Friday. He joins hundreds of other security personnel who have died in the hands of assailants in Karamoja sub region over the decades.
