Coach Sam Ssimbwa’s SC Villa on Friday closed the gap on Uganda Premier League (UPL) table leaders SC Vipers after their 2-0 win over SC Victoria University.
It was a sweet win for Ssimbwa who was axed by the University side over a year ago. SC Villa moved to second place to close the gap to four points behind the table leaders SC Vipers. Stephen Bengo and Elisa Sekisambu netted for SC Villa at their Mityana ground on Friday.
Ssimbwa said that they will keep taking every game seriously and because a League is a marathon that is won over time. The former Uganda Cranes assistant coach returned to Uganda three months ago from Rwanda and signed to coach SC Villa.
In the other games played on Friday, struggling Soana FC humbled bottom placed Rwenshama 4-1. Veteran Hamis Kitagenda was one of the scorers for Soana FC, while Timonthy Serwawudde, Rashid Kyambadde and Samuel Outtu netted the other goals.
Police FC moved to sixth place after a hard fought 2-1 away win to Bidco FC in Jinja. Yasin Mayimba and Peter Simon Senyonjo scored for Police FC, while Davis Kasirye scored the consolation goal for the home side. Lweza FC and Kira Young settled for a goalless draw.
The defending champions KCCA FC who will represent Uganda in the 2015 CAF Champions League are third on the log.
