Savio Kabugo was named Man of the Match for his performance in the 1-0 win over Ghana during the group E Afcon 2015 qualifier at Nelson Mandela National Stadium, earning praise from one of Uganda’s finest-ever centre backs in the process.
Uganda Cranes returned to winning ways with a win Savio scored the lone goal in the 10 minute with a well taken header off a corner kick.
Kabugo who was starting his fifth game for the Cranes in the campaign nodded in a well taken Mike Sserunkuma corner kick.
Kabugo’s forward forays capped a superb showing as part of a makeshift back four and he continues to show excellent progress since capturing Isaac Isinde’s slot alongside skipper Andy Mwesigwa and he is making the berth his own.
Cranes coach Militin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic told Red Pepper Online edition: “You can almost forget about him for 3 years, that’s his position, he will be a regular for Uganda and even turn professional.
“It all happened for him quite quickly since I gave him his first cap, with a big performance at CHAN in South Africa. He played really well against Togo and now Ghana and that’s what you can expect from him in the future.”
The Cranes must beat Guinea on Wednesday in Casablanca Morocco to qualify for the finals but if Guinea beats Togo, a draw will be enough to seal a place in the finals in Equatorial Guinea.
