It all started the administration blocked students from watching the Premier league match between Arsenal and Manchester United on Saturday.

However, some of the students sneaked from the school at Rushoroza and travelled to the suburbs of Mwanjari in Southern Division to watch the match where Manchester United beat Arsenal 2-1.

This prompted the administration to carry out a roll call to identify the students, who had left the school without permission.

This didn’t go down well with some of the students, who decided to confiscate the list and chase away the teachers.

On Sunday afternoon, the students rampaged and beat up deputy head teacher Silbooker Tumwesome, injuring him critically.

Tumwesome is currently nursing injuries at Kabale Regional referral Hospital.

They also vandalized the windowpanes on the Administration block, class rooms, and library and broke into the store, where they made off with school property.

Bosco Arop, the Kabale District Police Commander says they swung into action and picked up five students to help with investigations into the strike.

Oddo Arigye, the principal education officer Kabale municipality says the five students are the ring leaders of the strike. Oddo says they also resolved with the school management to close the school indefinitely.

Julius Titulyebwa, the chairperson Parents Teachers Association has condemned the strike saying it was uncalled for.

He says the students will be called back after the board of governors meeting.  The strike at St. Maria Gorreti Secondary School brings to seven, the name of strikes registered in schools in Kabale district this third term.

Other strikes occurred at Kabale Secondary school, Kigezi High school, Cream land High school, Kantare Secondary school; Bishop Kivengere Girl’s school-Muyebe and St. Theresa Girls School.
