Kampala youth leaders have dramatically cancelled the invitation to the president and invited former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi as the chief guest on Kampala youths day celebrations scheduled for October 25, 2014.

Red Pepper looked at a copy of the letter that was initially written to the president on September 22, 2014 that was signed by the chairperson, Anthony Buwande; “We hereby invite you to attend and be the guest of honour at the youth day celebrations at Kampala city scheduled for 25th/October/2014…” reads in part the letter to the president. On October 1, these youths changed their mind-by cancelling Museveni’s invitation and inviting Mbabazi.

“RE: Cancellation of the invitation. Reference is here made to the invitation letter made to his excellence the president of Uganda dated 22/Sept/2014 to attend the Kampala Capital City Youth day celebrations as the guest of honour. We anticipate your prompt attention to the call,” reads in part a letter to the president that was received on October 3, 2014 signed by Makindye youth boss-Jamila Navuga, Kawempe division boss-Jamila Kajumba, Nakawa youth chairperson-Vicent Mugenyi, Kampala Central chairperson-Moses Kizito Nsubuga and Rubaga vice chairperson-Christopher Mukiibi who signed on behalf of Abdallah Kitatta.

The invitation to Mbabazi that was signed by all the above chairpersons reads in part, “To the secretary general-National Resistance Movement (NRM), Hon. John Patrick Amama Mbabazi we hereby invite you to attend and be the guest of honour at the youth day celebrations for Kampala City…organized by Kampala Youths Council and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).” It adds, “Kampala Capital
Youth council is a structure of National Youth Council that constitutes villages, parishes and division councils. It is mandated to organize mobilize and engage youth development activities. It is a channel through which the youths can contribute and benefit from KCCA development process.

Explaining why they decided to change their mind, the Kampala youth council treasurer, Lawrence Ngobi said that, “We have only several occasions invited the president to our functions like on the youth day celebrations 2013, December 12, 2011 youth meeting and others but he has never attended. “We have invited Mbabazi because he is our party general secretary. We want to honour him for the transparency that he exhibited during the primaries. We also only see democracy in NRM when Amama is the secretary general, this is why we want to ask him not resign.”

However, Kampala overall youths boss, Anthony Buwande discarded the claims saying that the president’s invitation has never been turned down and that he will attend in person because preparations are in high gear.

  1. hahha lousy weak chaps trying to feel relevant by playing Mbabazi for money bags.

But again, these chaps are the real problem. If at their age they are still claiming to be youth!

Grow up and get jobs chaps. Museveni and Mbabazi will not help any of you.
