Police Deploy At Busoga Kingdom Headquarters

Police has cordoned off and tightened security at the headquarters of Busoga Kingdom to block a demonstration organized by opposition factions to protest the recent approval of William Gabula Nadiope IV as Kyabazinga of Busoga.
Heavily armed anti-riot policemen and plain cloth security operatives were yesterday deployed in the roads leading to the Kingdom offices in Bugembe ahead of an anticipated demonstration.

Police has also cordoned off some off-roads from Buwekula, Nakanyonyi and from Igenge and Wanyange Girls School hills.

Jessica Namaganda, a teacher at Wanyange Girls, says they are being inconvenienced by the heavy deployment at the foot of the hill with all roads blocked and she and other teachers have to be thoroughly checked, which takes time.

Other workers who have been affected are those at Kyabazinga School of Nursing and Midwifery and Basoga Baino FM radio all located at the buildings adjacent to Busoga kingdom headquarters.

Steven Mulooki, a tutor at Kyabazinga school of Nursing, says the tutors and students are facing a problem to access their lecture rooms as security personnel have refused most of them to get there since Friday last week.

Francis Musamaali, the Bugembe police Station Officer in Charge, says police is heavily deployed to keep law and order at Busoga Kingdom headquarters until the Kyabazinga is installed.

Cars, motorcycles and pedestrians have been forced to use alternative routes, some vying through people’s compounds to get to their homes.

On Friday last week, Daudi Kaunhe Wakhooli, the Isabalangira of Busoga handed over royal regalia to Prince Columbus Wambuzi, the Zibondo of Bulamogi County in protest of the election of William Gabula Nadiope IV as the fourth Kyabazinga of Busoga.

The royal regalia include a spear, shield and drum that were given to him as acting Kyabazinga after the death of Henry Wako Muloki in 2008.

Maureen Kyalya, Presidential Advisor on poverty alleviation in Busoga, last week vowed to lead the protests to denounce the election of Gabula Nadiope, a grandson of Sir William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Nadiope III, former Kyabazinga of Busoga. Kadhumbula Nadiope also served as vice president of Uganda between 1963 and 1966.

Preparations are underway for the coronation of Prince William Gabula Nadiope IV. Since Friday last week close relative of Gabula Nadiope and members of the Busoga Lukiiko have been meeting to agree on ways the coronation ceremony will be handled this month.

Prince Columbus Wambuzi also vowed to get to Busoga Kingdom headquarters at any cost after he received the royal regalia from the Isabalangira of Busoga Daudi Kaunhe Wakhooli.
