Pretoria University striker Geoffrey Massa has finally swallowed his ego and started to train with the seven players that did not make the 18-man team currently in Kumasi ahead of tomorrow’s 2015 Nations Cup qualifier against Ghana following strict orders from Cranes coach Micho Sredojevi that if he doesn’t the sar would out of next Wednesday’s home clash against Guinea at Namboole.

He was today spotted training at KCC Stadium in Lugogo with the players in camp under coach Frank Anyau at Sky Hotel in Naalya. The players were involved in some drills of shooting practice. There was also positive news on Brian Majweg’s injury. The KCC FC left winger is feeling slight pain.

“I am okay with the training and I am in good shape because I have been getting playing time at my club. I guess I will be able to help the team in our next encounter against Guinea next week,” Massa told the FUFA website shortly after training.

Sources within the Cranes set-up, however, claim that the stardom bug has hit Massa to the point that he now thinks he can choose which games to play and not to, while others allege that he did not want to partake in the Niger camp and wanted to link up with the team straight in Ghana.

Massa last played a Cranes away game early last year against Liberia. What raises eyebrows is that he missed the last two trips to Madagascar and Mauritania.

“Why would anyone stop me from travelling to Ghana?” I had prepared for this game and thought I would help the team but that isn’t possible now,” Massa stated to aloal daily early this week.

In the absence of Massa, Cranes will look to Robert Ssentongo, Yunus Ssentamu, Hamis Kizza and Brian Umony for ammunition. On the evidence of their display against Niger, Cranes will have to show more bite, application, and spirit if they are to survive the intensity of the game in Kumasi.
