This year’s edition of the Tusker Malt Uganda Open has been boasted by an improved Shs200m sponsorship package by title sponsors Uganda Breweries.

Grace Nshemeire, UBL’s Marketing Director disclosed on Wednesday that the package has been increased two-fold from Shs100m in 2013 forone of Africa’s premier golf tournaments that tees off from September 1-6.

“We have sponsored this over the year’s to close to 700 million and it has been increasing every year and we have a good relationship with the Uganda Golf Union and they have showed us their true professionalism whenever we have had sponsorships with them,” Nshemeire said.

It will be the first time that the tournament won by golfer Peter Ssendaula last year is held as a Pro-Am event that will be played on a par 71 course that has been adjusted from it’s usual design.

Several sponsors that include Uganda Tourism Board, Tusker, Sheraton, South African Airways, KK Security, Case Medical Centre, and HAS have been lined up to make this year’s event the biggest and best ever.

The main event is to be relayed on SuperSport and several local channel will be contested for by golfers of handicap 0-8 while the subsidiary event will have players of handicap 9-15.

Participation fees for the open have been set at sh150,000 for the amateurs, sh80,000 for the subsidiary event while the professionals will pay an entry fee of sh260,00 ($100).

At least 400 elite golfers, including professionals from the Sunshine Tour and European Challenge Tour, are expected to beat the August 15 deadline.
