UCU Needs Shs 1.2 Billion To Host East African University Games

Games to be held from 17th – 21st December 2014 (Main Campus Mukono)

Mukono based Uganda Christian University is in dire need for Ugs 1Billion to host a successful 9th edition East African University Games (EAUG0 according to the Local Organising Committee.

President of the local organizing committee, Anny Katabaazi informed the media, UCU is in a race against time in preparation for the biannual games.

“We are looking for close to Ug.shs 1.2 Billion in preparation of the games’ village, facilities, and all the nity gritty necessary”, Katabaazi, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration at UCU.

“I thank the Eastern Africa University Sports Federation for awarding these games to UCU. This is indeed a sign of confidence bestowed upon us,” Ntagali remarked in his brief speech.

Close to 6000 participants from 12 countries are expected to take part in 17 sporting disciplines.

Universities from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Comoros and Seychelles will all take part.

The games are; Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Darts, Handball, Hockey, Karate, Rugby, Scrabble, Soccer, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball and Woodball.

Church of Uganda His Grace Stanley Ntagali, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of Uganda Christian University was the chief guest today (Thursday, 10th July 2014) as the games were launched at a colourful ceremony held in Mukono-main campus.

Ntagali, who also unveiled the Games’ official logo appealed to the government, the corporate world, the media and the entire major partners to help in the great organization and publizing of the games.

“I invite all sportsmen and women as well as well-wishers to join in the games to celebrate the theme, spectacle and grandeur of the Eastern African Spirit,”  he added.

This year’s games, which kick off in December on the 17th are code named, ‘Sports Pamoja’.

Pamoja is a swahili word for togetherness, in line with the

UCU vice chancellor, Rev. Canon Dr. John Senyonyi President of the East African University games President, Cyriaco Kabagambe (Dean of Makerere University), several Local organizing committee members, the media all attended.
