Jacqueline Uwera Nsenga, the woman accused of knocking her husband to death has pleaded not guilty. Uwera appeared before Justice Duncan Gaswaga in Kampala High court this morning in connection with the death of her husband Juvenale Nsenga early last year at their family home in Bugolobi.
She has since been on remand at Luzira prison. Prosecution alleges that on or about January 10th 2013, Uwera unlawfully caused the death of her husband Juvenale Nsenga at the main gate of their home. The incident reportedly happened while the suspect was driving through the family gate when the deceased came to open for her.
Upon entering a plea of not guilty, court said it will start hearing the matter on Thursday. Susan Okalany, the Principal State Attorney told court that they have lined up about 29 witnesses to prove their case against Uwera. Okalany will be assisted by the Principal State Attorney Jane Akuo Kajuga. Uwera is represented by Nsubuga Mubiru, a senior criminal lawyer.
Before Uwera was charged on July 15th 2013, the police and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) were at odds on what kind of charges to slap against her. Police had initially wanted to charge her with a traffic offence saying there was evidence indicating that she intentionally murdered her husband. However, the Directorate of Public Prosecution insisted on murder charges.
At one time, the police even sought the advice of the attorney general on the matter.
