Muteesa I University Volleyball Club is likely to face the axe from the NSSF Volleyball League after being walked-over four times in the first round of the eight-month event. Over the weekend, the Masaka-based club was walked over by Thunders and Vision Volleyball Club in addition to two earlier walk-overs.
The University side’s Manager Mr. Adam Sematiko was not available for comment however; it is suspected that he is facing a difficulty with maintaining the players while on studies’ vacation. The 2010 UVF Congress ruled that all clubs registered in the National League shall always be available for matches fixed no matter whether they were institution-based or not.
Other institutions like Ndejje, Uganda Christian and Nkumba Universities have taken steps to maintain their players in camp even during the long June to August holidays. This arrangement has enabled the coaches to concentrate more on the teams since during that period the teams can afford to have double training sessions which usually gives the teams an edge over most opponents that they face in the second round of the League. The Sports Organising Commission is expected to pronounce itself on Muteesa One’s status a fete that shall require all its results to be withdrawn from the table standings.
