Transport has been paralyzed at the Kampala-Mityana highway after a small cargo plane carrying United States army soldiers made an emergency landing in middle of the road.

The incident occurred at 10: 00am at Kiwawu in Malangala Sub County in Mityana. The plane is believed to have been carrying 8 US soldiers.

The Central West Police Spokesperson Phillip Mukasa told a URN Reporter that the twin rotor plane SA 2112 was carrying the soldiers from Entebbe to a mission in South Sudan but it run out of fuel. The pilot was then forced to make an emergency landing in the middle of the road.

Mukasa says that no soldiers on board were hurt and the plane did not suffer serious damage.  Mukasa was, however, reluctant to divulge the identity of the passengers.

With traffic on the highway diverted, Mukasa says they have contacted Entebbe Airport authorities for fuel to enable the plane resume the journey.

However, reporters on the ground were able to speak to some of the soldiers who identified themselves by single names like Colonel Duke, Joseph, Edmond, Jaques among others.

Although the soldiers declined to speak in detail to the press, they were able to confirm that the plane was forced to land on the highway because it had run out of fuel.

The US embassy in Kampala is yet to issue a statement on the matter.

An eyewitness Samuel Mubiru tells URN that most schools, homes and shops have been deserted as residents run to catch a glimpse of the plane and its occupants.

By time of filling the story, three fire brigade trucks had been sent to the scene from Mityana Police Station to avert any fire outbreak. Scores of cars are stranded on the road as police tightly guards the scene.

This plane’s emergency landing comes hours after a Malaysian Airline MH17 carrying 295 people crashed in territory held by pro-Russian separatists rebels on Thursday in eastern Ukraine.

The Boeing 777 was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. It fell between Krasni Luch in Luhansk region and Shakhtarsk in the neighboring region of Donetsk killing all passengers on board

The Incident occurred four months after another Malaysian Airline MH370 carrying 239 passengers disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur.

  1. Yeah right. Museveni buys new jets and very expensive cars for himself but the country has no good airports where planes can land safely in case of immergency.Typically, Museveni and Kalekezi Kayihura will vist the road in Mityana and will either blame the opposition for this or boast about how NRA has build roads large enough for planes to land if they wish

  2. Six us military personnel on board on Ugandan plane with captain as well on returning from South Sudan! It shows a lot is going on under our noses without knowing. We just became aware in unfortunate circumstances and everything has been rolled under the carpets. Ugandans we need explanation please. Foreign super power have got full access to our country yet we require pile of documents to explain ourselves why we go there. What is our interest in all this? I’ve never trusted any politician and that stays put. They say one thing and do the other!
