Emmanuel Okwi, the Uganda Cranes striker says they will need to take advantage of the home ground and score several goals against Mauritania. Uganda Cranes is preparing to host Mauritania on July 19th at Mandela National Stadium in the first leg of the 2015 Africa Cup of nations (Afcon) playoff qualifier.
While Uganda ejected Madagascar to qualify for the third round, Mauritania benefited from the disqualification of Equatorial Guinea who used an ineligible player in the previous round.
Equatorial Guinea had eliminated Mauritania in the last round but was kicked out by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) last Thursday following a petition by Mauritania FA.
After working out at the Paradise Gym at the new Acacia Mall, Okwi told us that they have no alternative, but to try and score as many goals as possible. The Young Africans striker in the Tanzanian League reasoned that it will be very vital to win with a comfortable margin before the return leg.
Okwi who was not at his best in the last two games against Madagascar promised that he is working hard to get back to good form. The Cranes are expected to face Seychelles and Malawi before facing Mauritania next weekend.
The Seychelles team that will face Sierra Leone in an Afcon qualifier are expected to arrive this evening for their 7-days of camping in Uganda.
In-case the Cranes eliminate Mauritania, they will qualify for the Group stage that will have Guinea, Togo and the Black Stars of Ghana who bowed out at the group stages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
