The Secretary General of the Council for East and central African Football Associations (Cecafa), Nicholas Musonye, has said Sports Club Victoria University may be invited for the 2014 Cecafa Kagame Club Championships.
Musonye told our reporter on phone on Monday afternoon that after winning the inaugural 2014 Cecafa Nile Basin Cup in Sudan early this month, the Ugandan side might be invited as guests for the event slated for August 9-23 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The regional tournament meant for clubs in the region that win their respective Leagues is partly sponsored by the Rwanda President Paul Kagame. The Cecafa official said after his meeting with the football association of Rwanda and government officials last week, he is hopeful that more sponsors will be got so that they can invite other teams from the region including SC Victoria University.
He said preparations for the event are in top gear and they will make sure all travel and accommodation costs are cleared by the organizers. Musonye said he had engaged the Rwanda Football Association on how best the event could be organized and he is optimistic it will be very successful.
Coach George Nsimbe’s KCCA FC will represent Uganda at the tournament, while Gor Mahia which also has four Ugandan players will represent Kenya. Rwanda’s Rayon Sport and Young Africans of Tanzania will join defending champions Vital ‘O from Burundi in the competition.
Vital’O won the trophy last year in Darfur, Sudan.
