Uganda toptier league gaints SC Villa have signed defending champions KCC’s former captain, Fahad Kawooya to replace their ex skipper Ayub Kisaliita who left for newly promoted side Lweza on a free.
Having played second fiddle to Henry Kisekka all second round last season, the 25-year-old was set to slip further down the pecking order in light of the imminent arrival of Richard Kasagga at Lugogo from Kiira Young. Consequently, Kawooya jumped at the opportunity to continue his career at Villa Park.
“From the moment Villa told me of their told me of their interest, it was a priority for me,” the defender told Red Pepper Online early this week in an interview.
“I am very pleased to be here today. This is a new challenge for me, I have experienced a lot of things in my career. “I am very happy to join this quality group to try and make my contribution to the defence and make a very nice season.”
It remains to be revealed how much sign-on fee the elect SC Villa club president, Emma Ben Misagga is reportedly to have traveled to Turkey on a working trip gave him after the defender had requested for a hefty $40,000 an equavalent of Shs.200M to extend his contract at KCC two weeks ago but the club bankrolled by Kampala Capity City Authority said no and released him.
SC Villa, the 16 time record league champions are currently undergoing a massive administrative and technical overhaul. They have confirmed the signing of 8 new players to the side.
They are Elisa Ssekisambu (from URA), left winger Azizi Kemba (Bul), Julius Ntambi (Kira Young), goal keepers Ali Kimera (Sports Club Victoria University) and Nicolas Ssebwato (KCC), Patrick Waligo and Kawooya.
The club has also officially unveiled the current head coach Steven Bogere , who will be assisted by Ibrahim Kirya and Phillip Ssozi as the trainer.
