Uganda Cranes Start Nationwide Tour In Mbarara

OmonyThe ‘Cranes Na Mutima’ regional tour of Uganda kicks off in Western region on 29th June at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara.

Locally based players alongside those that ply their trade outside Uganda will be used in preparation for the forthcoming Nations cup qualifier against Equatorial Guinea on 19th July at Mandela National stadium, in Namboole.

The Cranes ‘Na Mutima” campaign will see the national team players tour all FUFA’s eight regions starting with Western between 27th and 29th June. The project will help garner country-wide support for the team in the ongoing Nations Cup qualification encounters.

Funded by sponsors Nile Special to the tune of about sh200m, the nationwide campaign starts on the weekend of June 27 and July 4 in Mbarara and Soroti respectively.. During the tours, the Cranes will play exhibition games against the respective regional select sides.

“Our hope is that the tour will bring on board new fans and support the Uganda Cranes. This is the only way we are going to have better experiences of supporting the national and regional teams in future. Our team has always exhibited the true champion spirit by getting up after every fall, and that bodes well with our brand identity,” Nile Breweries Sponsorship Manager Isaac Sekasi says.

FUFA technical team has released a list of 22 players who will be involved in the regional tour including Tanzania-based striker Brian Umony who has fought a lengthy fitness battle and start training on Monday.

Also included in the team set up for the first time is another SCVU defender, Murushid Jjuuko and on form KCC striker player, William Wadri has been also summoned in the national team.

  1. Unless the Cranes can qualify for the World Cup one day, they remain nothing but good for local entertainments and for beer drinkers.
