France secured their spot in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, after defeating Nigeria 2-0 at Estadio Nacional.

Paul Pogba’s 79th minute header and a late own goal from Joseph Yobo secured the win for Le Blues, who will now face the winner of the Germany and Algeria tie.

Despite a lively start from both sides, neither France or Nigeria created a single effort on target in the opening 20 minutes.

However, Vincent Enyeama came to the eagles rescue midway through the first half, as he pulled off a great reflect save to keep out Paul Pogba’s volley.

Mathieu Debuchy should have opened the scoring in the 39th minute but the French fullback failed to hit the target from close after being teed up by Mathieu Valbuena.

The Super Eagles registered the their first effort on target in the 44th minute, as Emmanuel Emenike’s 20-yard strike was palmed away by Hugo Lloris.

Hugo Lloris came to France’s rescue in the 64th minute, as he got down well to keep out Peter Odemwingie’s left-footed strike.

France almost took the lead in the 69th minute, as Karim Benzema’s effort was blocked by Enyeama, before Victor Moses cleared off the line at the second time of asking.

Yohan Cabaye nearly gave Lee Blues the lead in the 76th minute but his volley from 20-yards out was kept out by the woodwork.

Three minutes later and France went ahead, as a mistake from Enyeama saw Paul Pogba head home into an empty net.

The French sealed the win  late on, as Joseph Yobo deflected the ball into his own net to seal his side’s fate.
