Swedish-born Ugandan Martin Mutumba will be out of action for an unspecified period while he recovers from a thigh injury, Uganda coach Micho Sredojevic said on Monday.
He’s part of the Uganda team that is preparing for a crucial second leg clash against Madagascar in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on May 31 at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
“Mutumba did no train since yesterday,” he said while addressing press at the launch of Uganda’s home kit.
“The player will observe two days of complete rest before returing to training. He is expected to recover in time for the game against Madagascar.”
He got injured in a knock involving defender Isaac Isinde on Friday and limped off training thereafter.
Mutumba recently joined newly promoted Turkish Super League side Caykur Rizespor but is yet to get enough playing time.
He made his debut for Uganda in June last year in an away World Cup qualifier against Angola and played in the first leg tie, which Uganda lost 2-1 due. The winners between Uganda and Madagascar over the two legs will face the victors between Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea in the final phase of the preliminary round.
