Yasin Kalyango, a resident of Masaka Town has been arrested for beating up a policeman identified as Samuel Kinobero. Kinobero is a police officer attached to Kyotera Police station.

It is alleged that Kalyango who was driving a Toyota Corolla Registration UAF 171S stormed Kyotera Police Station along with Hajji Haruna Numba, a National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilizer whose vehicle had been impounded  for transporting suspected stolen cattle from Mutukula.

Kalyango identified himself as Masaka Region Chief Informer to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura ordering Kinobero the officer who was on duty to immediately release the vehicle which had been impounded.

Kinobero reportedly refused to follow Kalyango’s orders which caused him to lash out and assault Kinobero accusing him of failing to follow his orders.

It took the intervention of the Officer in charge of Kyotera police, Patience Baganzi who ordered for Kalyango’s arrest.

Baganzi said that she was surprised to see Kalyango beating up Kinobero claiming that he had failed to respect his orders yet he is attached to Inspector General’s office.

She said that Kinobero was rushed to Kaliisizo Hospital for examination.

The Southern region police spokesperson, Noah Sserunjogi has dismissed Kalyango’s claims saying that Masaka region police does not have the position of chief informer which Kalyango says he holds.

Sserunjogi, has asked locals to always report such people to police because their acts tarnish the image of Uganda Police.

He said that Kalyango is likely to face charges of assault and impersonation when police investigations into the matter are completed.
