The State has lost interest in pursuing the corruption and abuse of office charges initially preferred against two youth supporters of Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.
The withdrawal of charges of abuse of office against Omodo-Omodo, 29, the national vice chairperson of the northern region – NRM Youth League, and Adam Ruzindana Buyinza, 31, the national vice chairperson of NRM Youth League Kampala was declared when the matter came up for hearing before the Anti-Corruption Court this morning.
Accordingly, state prosecutor Jane Abodo presented to Chief Magistrate Sarah Langa, a notice for ending proceedings signed by the DPP, Mike Chibita to show that the case was officially withdrawn.
Abodo told court that the ruling NRM party resolved to settle its wrangles outside court hence the need to have the charges withdrawn with immediate effect.
The prosecution had alleged that Omodo-Omodo and Ruzindana abused their authority when they fraudulently induced and tricked the NRM and fraudulently solicited, bribed, induced party members and mobilizers into signing a petition to convene a delegates conference to challenge party resolutions.
The duo had allegedly expressed their opinions to oppose the NRM party Kyankwanzi resolutions to have President Museveni fielded as a sole NRM party candidate ahead of 2016 Presidential elections.
They were reportedly campaigning for Prime Minister Mbabazi to also contest against President Museveni.
