The High Court sitting in Kabale has sentenced two students of Kabale University to eight years imprisonment for Man Slaughter.
Prosecution led by Kabale district State Attorney Baston Baguma told court that on the 25th of May 2013, the duo, Peter Atuhaire (25) and Blessing Nabasa (23) murdered Dismas Turyatunga (21) a former student at Kabale Brainstorm High School.
The two are said to have clobbered the deceased to death after a disagreement over a relationship he had with one of their female friends. They subsequently raped the girl claiming that she was their colleague who shouldn’t have cheated on them with Dismas.
The victim was on his way from Pine Health Club in Kabale town.
According to a report by Dr. Moses Aharizira of Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, the deceased lost his life due to internal bleeding and thorny wounds.
Prosecution had asked court to hand the duo a 30 year jail sentence each upon conviction. But the defense team led by Justus Muhangi of Kasaija and Partners Advocates pleaded that the boys were still young and needed to be pardoned with a second chance at life.
Michael Elubu, the presiding Judge sentenced them to eight years in prison saying that the convicts pleaded guilty to the offense and never wasted courts time.
The Judge further revealed that the two were first time offenders and that handing them four years in Jail will be a lesson to them and others in the society who intend to commit such crimes.
