Young Africans duo Emma Okwi and Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza were the set of Uganda Cranes stars to join Sredojevic Milutin’s side after he made last minute changes to his squad that faces Zambia in an international friendly on Wednesday summoning Boban Zirintusa, Francis Olaki and Brian Umony.
There had been doubt whether the pair would make it Ndola on time after struggling to process their travel visas to Cairo ahead of their club’s CAF Champions League return leg against Egyptian side Al Ahly.
The two will compete with Gor Mahia’s Dan Sserunkuma for a starting place. Tony Mawejje and Henry Kalungi are out of the game after failing to secure their travel documents on time.
In the absence of Mawejje, Micho will stick with the Aucho Khalid-Geoffrey Kizito midfield partnership that started during the CECAFA Challenge Cup in Kenya last year or chip in Zimbabwe based midfielder Zirintusa.
Striker Geoffrey Massa, who turns out for South Africa club University of Pretoria is the other big absentee after his club team manager Graham Oosthuis stating in a communication to FUFA Monday evening that: “Geoffrey had sustained a Grade 1 strain of his left Rectus Femoris muscle during a game on the 22nd of February. He is currently undergoing treatment.”
Meanwhile, according to information available from Katende, the Cranes team landed in Ndola at 4:00 PM (East African Time) ahead of the tie and is accommodated at Mukuba hotel.
