Mother, son Murder Family Head

Police in Kabale district is holding a 45-year old Woman and her son on charges of murder.

The suspects Margret Bamuyaga and Amosi Baryakira are said to have strangled Jackson Beyaraza, the family head whom they left in the bed and only resurfaced later to claim that they found him dead. The woman later asserted that she thought the husband had been resting.

Locals became suspicious basing on reports that the family had initially attempted to kill the 63-year-old man and alerted the police.

A subsequent postmortem report also indicated that that the deceased had been strangled. The son later admitted that he was part of the plot hatched by his mother.

The two were arrested and transferred to Kabale central Police station.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that the deceased is said to have on several occasions attempted to sell off a piece of land but the family members equally threatened to deal with him.

Maate adds that the suspects should have sought for the intervention of the authorities instead of resorting to murder.

Kabale district Chairperson Patrick Besigye Keihwa says that murders related to domestic violence in the district are worrying.
