Ugandan teams won gold in football, basketball, handball and netball at just concluded Mapinduzi Cup, the annual competition that celebrates Zanzibar’s independence.
Coach George Nsimbe’s KCCA who also double as Uganda’s CAF Champions League representatives on Monday beat Tanzanian giants Simba 1-0 in the final.
Herman Wasswa’s first half strike in the final came with a $10,000 (sh25m) winner’s prize. URA FC midfielder Owen Kasule finished the tournament as the top scorer with four goals.
Uganda’s handball side was also in superb form beating Tanzania 32-29 then Kenya 40-20 and Zanzibar 40-20 to emerge supreme in the event organised on a round robin format while the basketball team registered three straight wins, the last one being against the hosts whom they beat 66-52 to win gold.
