Sportsman of the Year looks to be a tightly-fought race after the announcement of the finalists in this year’s Nile Special and Rwenzori sponsored Uganda Sports Press Association 2013 main award.

Numerous successes on the world stage sees the finalists coming from 26 different sports codes including; swimming, cycling, football, equestrian, motorsport, athletics and basketball.

A voting academy consisting of media representatives under their umbrella organization USPA  selected the finalists on Monday from a list of nominations with the winners to be announced at a ceremony at Sheraton Kampala Hotel in April.

Olympian and World championship marathon winner Stephen Kiprotich is among the Sports personality of the Year Award finalists and is joined by Pearl of Africa Rally and National Rally Champion Jas Mangat and Africa’s best netball shooter-cum- basketballer Peace Proscovia.

 

In the last four years, Peace has averaged over 100 points as a shooter in every tournament she has played in. And as proof for her consistent and impressive displays, the third-year BBA student has won the USPA Netballer of the Year Award for 2009, 2011 and 2012 in the last four years.

Surprise package, Uganda national netball team She Cranes as Nile-Uspa sports personality for December for winning the Six Nations Netball championship at the eighth edition of the invitational competition after edging hosts Singapore 52-29 in the final.
