Police in Kyankwanzi district is investigating the alleged poisoning of six members of the same family in an attack which left two of them dead.
The incident occurred at Byerima village in Butemba Sub county, Kyankwanzi district.
Ovuru Binega, the regional police commander for Wamala region identified the deceased as Nakibirango Margret34, and her son Ssesaazi Gideon 14.
Milly Namata aged 12, Rogers Kasumba (10), Brian Kazoora (8 years) and Olivia Kwagala Kwamukama aged 5 years were rushed to Hoima hospital in a critical condition. They have since been treated and discharged.
Binega adds that police recovered food samples from the scene, conducted a post mortem and released the bodies to the relatives for burial.
The officer in charge of criminal investigations in Kyankwanzi district, John Eric Wabwiire says police is yet to get the final medical report indicating the exact cause of the death although poison was highly probable. He says signs of poison were vivid at the scene
Relatives however suspect the two were strangled to death.
Kaleebu Eriabu, a young brother to Nakibirango says the bodies had been locked inside the house which indicated that they were intentionally killed. He suspects that the children had been chloroformed but not poisoned.
Last year a number of horrible food poisoning cases rocked the country in the districts of Kiboga, Hoima, Nakaseke and Masaka among others.
In August last year, a family of six from Kiboga town council was admitted at Kiboga hospital in critical conditions after they allegedly eat poisoned food.
Two of them did not survive the incident. This was barely two months after Swaibu Ssemakula of Kibiga sub-county, Kiboga district who stayed in Nakaseke district lost his family of five after they ate suspected poisoned food.
