Following the election of a new Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) executive led by President Kenneth Gimugi, preparations for the 14 event calendar for the season 2014 have started in high gear after it was unveiled.

But high on the list is the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland were boxing is definitely going to be Uganda’s biggest medal prospect. “Uganda is blessed with very many talented boys out there who can take the country back to the glory days of the 1970s,” UBF president Kenneth Gimugu tells RedPepper Online in an exclusive phone interview on Tuesday morning.

Boxer Ronald Serugo put a one-man show at the 2008 Beijing Olympics then the country missed out on many top competitions including the 2010 Commonwealth Games and last year’s Olympic Games.

“We are on the drawing board and if all goes well reviving the sport will definitely be realised,” Gimugu added.
