Zambia redeemed themselves by handing Tanzania a 6-5 beating in post-match penalties, following a 1-1 regulation time draw, to emerge third at the 2013 Cecafa Cup in Kenya when they face Tanzania in a third and fourth play-off game on Thursday in Nairobi.
Richard Kampamba opened the scoring for the Chipolopolo in the 53rd minute before TP Mazembe striker Mbwana Samatta equalised for Kilimanjaro Stars in the 66th minute.
Chipolopolo failed to qualify for the Cecafa Cup final on Tuesday after squandering a 1-0 lead in extra-time to lose 2-1 to Sudan in Mombasa.
Thursday’s meeting was also be the second time Zambia and Tanzania clash at this year’s tournament that comes to an end on the same day.
Zambia earlier drew 1-1 with Tanzania in the two sides opening game in a Group B fixture of November 28 at Machakos.
Thursday’s win also marked the turning point of Zambia coach Patrice Beaumelle’s month-long tenure as trainer after losing his initial three games before embarking on a four-match unbeaten run that was ended by Sudan.
